Technology has changed our lives immeasurably and revolutionized our world in countless ways. One important thing technology has allowed us to do is respond to natural disasters in a more effective way. But how exactly could technology help us respond to natural disasters? We’re taking a look at some of the technologies that help us to fight and better recover from natural disasters.
Boston Dynamics
These robots can go to the areas that might put the lives of responders at risk. They can perform life-saving tasks in dangerous conditions: flipping switches, shutting off valves, opening doors, and running power equipment.
NASA Finder
NASA Finder was created by NASA in response to the 2015 Nepal earthquake. It’s a suitcase-size tool that can detect human heartbeats through up to 30 ft of rubble and up to 20 ft of solid concrete.
TERA App
The TERA app, or ‘Trilogy Emergency Relief Application’ was used during the 2010 Haiti earthquake. It was designed for two-way communication between disaster-affected people and aid agencies.
Cisco's Tactical Operations
Cisco aims to use advanced technologies to address and meet communication needs in disaster hit areas. These include rapid response kits, emergency communication units, and phone kits. The Tactical Operations can quickly deploy networks to help relief agencies save lives and speed up the recovery of communities.
